Opened in 1929 by businessman Emmanuel Martinez, the Hôtel Martinez has long been the grandest hotel on the French Riviera. Today, the seven-storey building still towers tall and proud above the iconic Promenade de la Croisette. Now part of the Hyatt group, talented designer Pierre-Yves Rochon has restored all of the hotel's communal areas, along with its 409 rooms and suites, to their former glory and beyond.
Step through the glass doors and prepare to be captivated by the sight of the vast lobby, worthy of a fairytale palace straight out of the Arabian Nights. Under the vintage chandelier, the sweeping staircase – walked by a whole host of film stars – perfectly captures the hotel's Art Deco style. Outside, the Jardin du Martinez, an oasis of lemon and olive trees, makes a fabulous setting for evenings of jazz music and generous outdoor buffets. Back inside at the Michelin-starred restaurant La Palme d'Or, chef Christian Sinicropi skilfully showcases local ingredients in inventive dishes. It is worth noting that the hotel has achieved “Green Globe” certification for its commitment to sustainability, and its tireless efforts to improve its environmental credentials.
After a relaxing, refreshing visit to the luxurious 900 sqm spa on the top floor, what could be better than finding yourself a spot on the Plage du Martinez, looking out over the Mediterranean and Lérins Islands? It is, quite simply, the best place on the French Riviera to see and be seen.
